Beach guide
Gozo beaches
Gozo's beaches are smaller and quieter than Malta's. Ramla Bay and San Blas have red sand; most of the rest are rocky coves, fjord-like inlets such as Mġarr ix-Xini and Wied il-Għasri, and harbour villages like Xlendi and Marsalforn.
Gozo is exposed to the open sea on most sides, so check the conditions before you set off: a northerly or north-easterly roughens Ramla, San Blas and Marsalforn, while a north-westerly hits Dwejra and Xlendi.
Sea conditions update every hour.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best beach in Gozo?
Ramla Bay is Gozo's biggest and most popular sandy beach. San Blas is smaller and steeper to reach, and Ħondoq ir-Rummien and Daħlet Qorrot are favourites for snorkelling.
Are there sandy beaches in Gozo?
Yes: Ramla Bay and San Blas Bay both have red-gold sand, and Xlendi and Ħondoq ir-Rummien have small sandy areas. Most other swimming spots in Gozo are rocky or pebbly.
Can you swim at the Azure Window?
The Azure Window collapsed in 2017, but you can still swim at Dwejra by the Blue Hole and in the Inland Sea when the sea is calm. Avoid it in north-westerly or westerly winds.
