The best snorkelling spots in Malta and Gozo

Malta's rocky coast is what makes its snorkelling so good: clear water, limestone ledges, caves and plenty of fish within a few metres of the shore. Rocky coves and narrow inlets beat sandy beaches here.

Snorkelling needs a calm sea for good visibility and safe exits, so check the conditions below before you go and pick a spot sheltered from the day's wind.

Sea conditions update every hour.

Do you need a boat to snorkel in Malta?

No. All the spots above can be reached from the shore except Crystal Lagoon, which is easiest by boat.

On calm days after a spell of light winds, usually in the morning. Rough seas stir up sand and make exits over rocks dangerous.
