The P31 was built in East Germany in 1968–69 as the Kondor I class minesweeper Pasewalk. She came to Malta in 1992 and served as patrol boat P31, mainly on anti-smuggling and border control work, until 2004. The Malta Tourism Authority scuttled her off Comino, between Lantern Point and Cominotto, on 24 August 2009.
The 52-metre wreck sits almost upright on sand, with the stern at about 18 metres, the bow at about 20 metres and the top at about 7 metres. Doors, windows and the mast were removed before sinking, so you can swim through from stern to bow. Winter storms in 2010–11 shifted her closer to Comino.
It is a boat dive only. The shallow depth suits newer divers and snorkellers, and the site is a good choice when north-westerly winds rule out other spots.
