Lantern Point, also known as Ras l-Irqieqa or Lighthouse Reef, is the south-western tip of Comino, below the island’s light. The boat moors on a rocky plateau at about 6 metres, right beside the top of an L-shaped chimney.
The chimney drops through the limestone to exit from a cave at around 16 metres; it can also be done in reverse, up from the cave. A torch helps on the way down. Beyond the exit the wall falls steeply past 40 metres, with large boulders and swim-throughs below. Look for barracuda, morays, lobster and squid.
This is a boat dive only. The point is very exposed, so it is only dived in calm weather. The chimney route stays within about 18 metres, but the wall makes it easy to go deep, so watch your depth.
