MV Xlendi was built in Denmark in 1955 as a train ferry and served Gozo Channel from 1990 to 1997. The Gozo Tourism Association scuttled her off Xatt l-Aħmar on 12 November 1999, making her Gozo’s first artificial reef, but she turned over as she sank and landed upside down, crushing her superstructure.

The 77-metre hull rests on a sandy slope at about 42 to 44 metres, with the propellers, the shallowest point, at about 32 metres. Fish are plentiful around the hull, and a sunken car lies nearby on the shore side.

She is usually dived from the shore at Xatt l-Aħmar, often after MV Karwela. Do not go inside the wreck: it is unstable, silted up and has no safe exits. This is a deep dive for experienced divers.
