The bay of Armier is found at the very northern tip of Malta. The sandy beach sits right in front of the islands of Comino and Gozo. Over the years, bars and small restaurants were set up on the beach, providing basic facilities. The area is still considered rural so the place has no hotels or specific tourist facilities. Swimming in Armier is generally considered safe. It can, however, see some rough seas when hit with the north winds. The area is popular also during the winter season for picnics and barbecues.

Getting there

Armier is on the Marfa ridge at Malta's northern tip. From Mellieħa, drive north over the ridge towards L-Aħrax and follow the signs for Armier. In summer, bus 49 (from Pietà via Mosta and St Paul's Bay) is extended from Għadira to Armier; the rest of the year it ends at Għadira, and you face a walk of about 15–20 minutes with no shade from the nearest stops.

Parking

There is parking around the beach, but it fills early on summer weekends, often by about 9:30–10am. In July and August cars end up lining both sides of the road.

Good to know

Armier is a sandy bay facing Comino and Gozo, with lidos, bars and kiosks renting sunbeds and umbrellas in summer, plus banana rides and jet ski hire. It is popular with Maltese families who spend the whole day there, and it is usually quieter than Għadira or Golden Bay. The bay faces north, so north-westerly winds can bring swell and undercurrents; there are no lifeguards, so if locals are not swimming, stay out.
